Accused in police custody
Rajkot: Dhuleti, the festival of colours, turned gory with three murders being reported from Kutch and Rajkot on Tuesday. Seven persons were arrested for allegedly committing offences.
In Kutch, Gulam Jusab Shiru (55) was hacked to death by four assailants in Shirava village of Mandvi taluka. Police arrested Mamad Padhiyar, Abbas Shiru, Abdullah Padhiyar and Sultan Padhiyar for the crime.
According to the police, the accused had a long pending dispute with Gulam over the boundary of cattle sheds. On the fateful day, while Gulam and his son Rahim were herding out their cattle from the shed, Mamad entered into an altercation with them.
“As the altercation turned into a fight, the accused attacked Gulam and Rahim with axes and iron rods. While Gulam was killed on the spot, Rahim is battling for his life in Mandvi Civil Hospital,” said N M Chauhan, sub-inspector with Mandvi police station.
In Chobari village of Bhachau taluka in Kutch, Magha Meria (45) was rammed by a car by the accused, identified as Ramesh Varchand.
“Varchand purposefully rammed his car into Meria and killed him, as he was nursing a grudge against him after he ran into an altercation with him over an issue of driving,” said an official from Bhachau police station, adding that Varchand went absconding after the crime.
In Pad village on the outskirts of Rajkot, three persons were arrested for allegedly hacking to death Raju Ganava (24). “The accused, Shaitan Singal (32), Pappu Ajanar (50) and his son Mayalo Ajanar (21) had attacked Ganava over a financial dispute,” said an official from Lodhika police station.
Ganava’s younger brother Sanjay had eloped with Singal’s sister. As part of a compromise, Ganava had agreed to pay Rs 3.70 lakh to Singal, of which he had already paid Rs 2 lakh. Though Ganava had promised to pay the remaining amount later, Singal had started harassing him over the recovery of the amount. On the fateful day, when Singal came for the recovery, he entered into an altercation with Ganava, following which Singal and the co-accused attacked Ganava.
