PUNE: “Most of the labourers in the construction sector are young and they do not care much about their safety. Even though they are given safety kits, accidents still occur at sites due to their negligence and disregard for life.

"So, to create awareness on safety and enforce implementation of safety rules at construction sites, CREDAI-Pune Metro has decided to give awards to builders and workers who follow safety guidelines at their respective sites,” said Ranjit Naiknavare, Vice-President of CREDAI-Pune Metro.

He was speaking at the National Safety Week 2020, organised by Credai-Pune Metro (Labour Welfare Committee) and Kolte-Patil Developers from March 4 to March 11.

Naiknavare added, “Every year, several sites of Credai-Pune Metro members will be inspected for safety measures. If all  labourers are following the guidelines and there is no record of any accident on the site, we will reward such sites and workers.”

CREDAI-Pune Metro has also launched a programme involving the opening of bank accounts of the labourers with zero balance by the Indian Post Bank Payments Ltd.

Five labourers were chosen for the initiative and their saving bank accounts, which are linked with life insurance policies were opened at the event.
