Punjab and Rajasthan met the Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Thursday with a request to look into the Rs 650 crore rejuvenation plan for
Buddha Nullah recently approved by the state government, the minister has sought a report within a week from his concerned officials. Shekhawat has asked the officials to visit the Punjab government to get details regarding this project. The NGOs have asked the minister to make sure there isn't any fault in the design because it was an important project for Ludhiana.
The members of NGOs Naroa Punjab Manch, Bhai Ghanahiya Cancer Roko Society from Punjab and
Dooshit Jal Asurkashit Kal from Rajasthan handed over the memorandum to the Union minister. They pointed out that the detailed project report for Buddha Nullah had certain flaws and there was requirement to get it checked through independent experts.
The president of Naroa Punjab Manch
Gurpreet Singh Chandbaja said, "The minister listened to us patiently and he has immediately asked his officials to take a report on this project from Punjab government within a week." He said the union government is also giving share in this project so they should intervene in the ongoing process.
Meanwhile Jaskirat Singh a businessman from city who is fighting for the cleaning of Buddha Nullah said the state government has delayed the tenders for next 15 days and they got a few days more to tackle this issue. He said he has arranged the DPR with great difficulty from somewhere and now he will study it in detail. He said the union minister will also be sending his team for the review which is yet another relief.
The NGOs and active residents had raised the issue of this DPR and had also demanded from CM Captain Amarinder Singh to make this DPR public for getting suggestions. The NGO from Rajasthan has also been raising this issue several times because villagers in Rajasthan are also facing tough time due to supply of polluted water.
