Euro 2020 is to be postponed until 2021, according to French newspaper L'Équipe.

The international football tournament is currently set to kick off on June 12 but will now be postponed for a year due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The sports publication reports that the move will enable UEFA to conclude its two European club tournaments - the Champions League and the Europa League - this summer.

The report comes after UEFA released a statement on Thursday afternoon announcing that a meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 17 to discuss the Euros, the Champions League, the Europa League, and other football-related matters in light of "ongoing developments in the spread of Covid-19 across Europe and the changing analysis of the World Health Organisation."

No official decision is expected to be made up until then but L'Équipe say that "according to [their] information, UEFA should announce during this meeting the provisional suspension of the Champions League and the Europa League and the postponement of the Euros in 2021."

This year's Euros is set to take place in different countries across the continent.

In addition to the two group stage games that are set to take place in Glasgow and Dublin, the semi-finals and the final of the competition are set to be played in London's Wembley Stadium.

The postponement will undoubtedly come as a disappointment to the thousands of fans across the country who have already booked flights and accommodation for the summer but with Wales set to conclude their group stage games in Rome, which is currently on lock-down , the news will come as little surprise.
