Women share ‘mann ki baat’ with PM

Ludhiana: On International Women’s Day, several women of the city wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking basic civic amenities.
In the letter, which has also been sent to Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh, the women have blamed the municipal corporation for failing to provide facilities despite collecting crores of rupees in taxes.
Amrik Kaur Rawal, a resident of Chandan Nagar, said, “How can women celebrate the day when they are deprived of basic services like water, sewerage and roads. The civic body collects hundreds of crores in taxes, but has failed to ensure residents get what is their right. Instead of celebrating International Women’s Day, we decided to share our Mann Ki Baat with PM. We have urged him to gift us on this day civic amenities, like clean water supply and smooth roads.”
Mona Sahni, of Lakshmi Nagar, said, “Ludhiana women do not have a reason to celebrate when most of the roads in the city are in a deplorable state and causing accidents. Unplanned constructions are going on at many places, leading to traffic chaos. Every year, rain exposes MC, which has failed to plug the problem of waterlogging. Even light rain submerges roads, giving residents a tough time. Our money should be judiciously utilised towards providing the basic facilities.”
Pooja Dhir, a resident of Anand Nagar, said “Safety is also an issue. With incidents of crime against women on the rise, we also seek measures to ensure our safety. With so many issues plaguing the industrial hub, we thought it appropriate to take it up with the PM and the CM.”
Most of the women who wrote the letter are associated with NGO Sanjhi Sangat.
