Uber is set to launch a new 'pet-friendly' option so Australians can bring their furry passengers along for the ride.
Set to launch in Sydney and Brisbane on Tuesday, 'Uber Pet' gives pet owners a peace of mind that their furry companions will be welcomed in the vehicle.
Drivers are able to decline or accept the fare depending on their vehicle policy.
The ride-sharing company will charge customers an additional $6 to $7 'pet fee' on top of the standard fare if they choose to bring their animal friend.

'At Uber we're constantly imagining new ways to meet the needs of all riders, even those with four paws and a tail. So we're excited to announce we're piloting a new type of ride,' an Uber spokesperson said.
'So next time you're on your way to a pet-friendly pub, heading home from the vet, or on your way to doggy yoga - you can rest assured there's a convenient way for both you and your furry friend to get from A to B at the push of a button.'
The new feature is launching as a trial - and if riders and drivers like Uber Pet, Uber will roll it out nationally as a 'paw-manent' option.
'Not only is it a win for pet owners, Uber Pet also provides drivers who stay opted in to pick up furry friends with another opportunity to earn more,' the spokesperson added.
To book a ride with your pet, all you have to do is simply select the 'Uber Pet' option in the app, then find a match with a driver who is eligible and willing to transport you and your pet.
If you are travelling with a service animal such as a guard dog, passengers can continue to select a regular Uber option.
