Local NGO organises cleanliness drive at Guru Nanak Dev stadium

Ludhiana: The volunteers of NGO Feeding India organised a cleanliness drive on Sunday near Guru Nank Dev Stadium. Over 40 volunteers, most of them college students and young professionals, cleaned up area in the wake of the marathon organised by a city college. Volunteers of all age groups participated with great enthusiasm in the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Anirudh Sahi, city head of the NGO, said, “The cleanliness drive was a big success and our volunteers from all age groups showed great spirit. The youngest volunteer was a Class X student and is working with the NGO while managing his studies for the upcoming boards as well. Our team also has women members at the forefront, leading the charge. A lot of garbage was left post the marathon and the volunteers cleared up the area in no time. They arranged the cleaning equipment and also managed the proper disposal of the waste collected with proper segregation of dry and wet waste”
Sahi also added, “Our NGO is a pan India initiative, formed with a mission to eradicate world hunger — it is the duty of every human being who has access to two meals per day to think about those who don't have such access. The feeling of satisfaction that one gets by satiating someone’s hunger is what motivates the volunteers to take out time from their daily lives and do this social service. The cleanliness drive was organised to spread their message among the youngsters of Ludhiana and encourage them to be a part of this mission. We also run a van to collect surplus food from restaurants, bakeries and homes and distributes them in slums and in other places. Today’s drive was a success overall and the members congratulated each other for setting an example of cleanliness amongst city people”
