Thiruvananthapuram: City
police will be fielding a strong posse of 3,000 personnel on the streets on Monday to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of
pongala.
Police have divided the force into four zones. Each zone is controlled by an officer in the rank of SP. The temple and the surrounding places are identified as Inner Zone. Woman battalion commandant D Shilpa Devaiah is in charge of this zone.
The Outer Zone, which comprises the city roads where devotees take position to offer pongala, is under the supervision of SP K S Vimal, who is the commandant of special armed police camp in the city.
The vehicular movement and parking is under the control of Traffic Zone. Special cell SP V Ajith, attached to police headquarters, has the charge of Traffic Zone.
The fourth zone is Emergency Zone, which has the responsibility to attend to exigencies such as fire accidents and health emergencies.
Deputy commissioner P A Muhammed Arif is in charge of the Emergency Zone.
Besides the personnel of Inner Zone, Woman Commandos and quick response team (QRT) will also be deployed on the temple premises.
Bike patrolling squads will patrol the roads and bylanes. Officers in mufti and shadow cops will be looking out for eve teasers and chain snatchers.
The entire police force is consists of 21 deputy superintendents, 62 inspectors, including 12 women, 450 sub-inspectors, 700 women police officers and 1,760 men officers. In addition to this, a team of officers from Tamil Nadu too will be on duty to assist the police here.
Police will be monitoring the entire pongala action from two control rooms, the city police control room and the special control room set up on the temple premise.
As many as 65 cameras have been installed in the temple zone. Drone cameras will also be used to monitor the activities.
