Ayushmann Khurrana recently appeared in his movie 'Shubh Mangal Saavdhan's sequel 'Shubh Mangal Zyaada Saavdhan'. The cast also featured his 'Badhaai Ho' parents Neena Gupta and Gajraj Rao. The actor, thus, was expected to be part of 'Badhaai Ho's sequel too, but actor Rajkummar Rao has replaced him in the same. Titled 'Badhaai Do', the movie also stars Bhumi Pednekar in the lead role, as the replacement to Sanya Malhotra from 'Badhaai Ho'.
While Rajkummar Rao plays a Delhi-based cop, the sole male cop in a female police station, in 'Badhaai Do', Bhumi has been roped in to play the PT teacher. The movie is about the goof-ups which take place once their characters meet each other.
Talking about her character in the film, Bhumi told Bombay Times that she immediately agreed to do the film since she was a fan of 'Badhaai Ho' and the script gripped her right from the start. "My character again is strong, independent and author-backed, and it gives me a lot of scope to bring a very different and cool character to life. This time, too, the film will say something extremely relevant and relatable, but in a hilarious manner. I’m also excited to share screen space with Raj for the first time," she stated.
On the other hand, Rajkummar feels a new perspective despite playing a cop in his career even before. He said, "I look for layered characters and this is a perfect match. My character is surrounded by strong women at home and work, and that adds immense depth to his personality."
'Badhaai Do' is being helmed by 'Hunterrr' director Harshavardhan Kulkarni, who promises a 'completely new and zanier situation' in the film. Set to go on floors in June, 'Badhaai Do' is slated for release in early 2021.
