Rajkot: Dhoraji police arrested a man on Sunday for committing a murder in Jhanjhmer village of Dhoraji taluka in Rajkot district two days ago. The accused, identified as Shakaria Samaliya (46), was arrested after the body of Kamlesh Chauhan (40) was found in a well near a check dam on the outskirts of Jhanjhmer village on Saturday.
Cops arrested Samaliya as he was the last person to have been seen with the deceased. Chauhan’s wife Kamali told the police that Samaliya had taken Chauhan for a fishing and liquor party on Thursday evening.
However, after Chauhan failed to return home the next day, Kamali started searching for him and asked Samaliya about her husband’s whereabouts. The accused feigned ignorance, she alleged. Then the villagers informed her about the recovery of a body in the well near the check dam.
When the body was fished out, Kamali identified it to be her husband. On Saturday night, Kamali lodged a police complaint in which she named Samaliya as the accused.
“We arrested Samaliya from Dhoraji from where he was planning to flee. During interrogation, Samaliya told the police that he killed Chauhan as he was allegedly having had an illicit relationship with his daughter. Samaliya said that he had first got Chauhan drunk and then bludgeoned him to death. After this, he threw Chauhan’s body in the well,” said V H Joshi, inspector, Dhoraji police station.
