AHMEDABAD: Ghanshyam Sharma, 32, of Naroda has lodged a complaint with the Krishnanagar police station stating that a couple — Mitesh Raval and his wife Payal of Kapadvanj — has cheated him of Rs 13 lakh on the pretext of getting him a job in the central government. Police officials said that they have registered an offence under Sections 406, 420, and 114 of the IPC and are hunting for the accused couple.
According to the complaint lodged by Sharma, one his relatives had introduced the Ravals to him at a religious function in Kapadvanj about two years ago. They had exchanged phone numbers at the time. Sharma, who is in the plastic bags business, stated that in January 2018, Mitesh called him and asked him to pick him and his wife Payal from Dehgam Circle.
“Police source said when they came to Sharma’s house, Payal saw Sharma’s qualifications — BA and BEd. She told Sharma that she can get him a central government job but he would have to pay Rs 15 lakh,” a police official said. Later Mitesh and Payal again came to Sharma’s house and showed him some letters. Sharma fell into their trap and paid them Rs 5 lakh. The Ravals then told Sharma that he would have to come to Delhi with them to give an interview.
According to Sharma, he gave the Ravals Rs 3 lakh more in July 2018 and another Rs 5 lakh in September 2018. However, whenever Sharma asked for the appointment letter, the Ravals told him to wait. After one-and-a-half years, Sharma went to Kapadvanj to meet the Ravals but found them missing. Their phones had been switched off. Sharma then realized that he had been cheated.
