Ludhiana: In the wake of increasing complaints against the lack of cleanliness in the city station, railway protection force, accompanied with railway authorities, carried out an intensive day-long drive to catch violators who use tobacco containing products and spit in the station premises.
The initiative was made on directions of higher authorities of northern railway.
During the checking, officials of railway and police force inspected more than 100 trains passing through the city railway station, challaned the offenders who were violating the railway norms and creating problem for other passengers.
Anil Kumar, in charge of railway protection force (Ludhiana post), said, due to Holi lot more people are comign to the station and spitting and throwing garbage too have increased to a great extent. “We have inspected 100-plus trains passing through the city and created awareness among 500 passengers about the harsh punishments for violating railway norms as well as the ill effects of consuming tobacco products on a day-to-day basis. Railway security forces have warned 120 passengers including college going students during anti-smoking drive,” added Kumar.
Railway had caught as many as 109 offenders, who were using tobacco containing products during the drive and challaned them.
Station superintendent, Ashok Salaria, said, “In view of bad weather conditions, several trains arrived late, which resulted in heavy rush on different platforms of city railway station, creating confusion. Local authorities had pulled up their shocks and stared the day-long drive to deal with littering and defacing of railway properties. We have made an appeal to all authorities as well as rail commuters to maintain cleanliness at the railway station so that passengers who have to wait in case of any train delay will not have to face any inconvenience.”
