GURUGRAM: Commuters will have to wait another three to four months for the 270-metre-long flyover at Huda City Centre.
While work on the stormwater drain is underway and the entire structure will be complete by the end of March, it will be opened to traffic only around June as the middle portion of the underpass — between pillar 199 near gate number 3 of the metro station and 201 towards Subhash Chowk road — still needs to be constructed.
“The portion where work on the underpass has to be done is right after one comes down the flyover. We’ll have to create traffic diversions for this work,” said a GMDA official privy to the matter.
The contractor has prepared the diversion plan, which will be submitted to traffic police on Monday. As per the plan, a portion of the lane, from pillar 202 on Subhash Chowk side till gate number 3, will be barricaded.
The flyover, which was earlier supposed to be opened in November last year, was first delayed due to the construction ban. Later, the GMDA pushed the deadline to end of January, which was further pushed to mid-February.
The project contractor claimed that work on the box structure was also delayed due to concerns raised by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). To avoid any damage to the metro pillar, a new approach had to be worked out.
“We are leaving some area around the pillar for the sheet piling so that there’s no impact. But the entire process is tedious as it will take us about 2-3 months to complete the work,” said an MG contractor official.
Last year, GMDA had planned to create a flyover and an underpass to decongest Huda City Centre, one of the major choke points of the city. In July, the main road opposite Huda City Centre and Fortis hospital was closed for work.
