HYDERABAD: Telangana’s per capita income (PCI) which grew to Rs 2,28,216 has outpaced the national average of Rs 1,35,000.
“The progress of our state can be seen in the fact that Telangana’s (growth in) per capita income is Rs 93,166 higher than of the country,” finance minister T Harish Rao said while presenting the state budget on Sunday.
While the national average per capita income grew at 6.3% for 2019-20, Telangana’s growth stood at 11.6% for the same period.
The Socio-Economic Outlook 2020 released by state government showed that Telangana’s PCI in 2018-19 was Rs 2,04,488 while India’s was Rs 1,26,521 for the same period.
While district-wise growth in PCI was not given, the 2018-19 numbers showed that 23 districts in Telangana had outpaced the national average. As per the data, Rangareddy district had the highest PCI at Rs 5,78,978 while Hyderabad had a per capita income of Rs 3,57,287.
In terms of Gross District Domestic Product (GDDP), calculated on the same lines as Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), both Rangareddy and Hyderabad had stand-out showings for 2018-19 with GDDPs of Rs 1,73,143 crore and 1,67,231 crore respectively.
The PCI growth rate of the state since 2013-14 has consistently been higher than the country’s. For 2013-14, the growth rate for state and country over the previous year was recorded at 11.5% and 11% respectively. The PCI growth rate of Telangana was higher in 2015-16 too at 13.5% over the previous year while the country had a growth rate of 10.6% in the same period.
