Burning of plastic irks Mugalli locals

MARGAO: Several incidents of burning of plastic by unidentified culprits off the Ramnagri main road at Mugalli in Sao Jose de Areal has left residents irked. They have urged the authorities to take immediate action.
“On Sunday morning I saw that a huge quantity of plastic had been set on fire. People in the vicinity were complaining of suffocation due to the smoke and the foul odour,” a resident, Tenny Fernandes, said.
The residents notified the sarpanch and called the Maina Curtorim police before dousing the fire.
Fernandes said in the past too he has brought the menace to the notice of authorities, but to no avail.
In fact, the residents recount a similar incident in the recent past where piles of garbage were set ablaze in pits in the same locality. The fire brigade had to be called in to douse the flames.
