City road named after freedom fighter & former minister Lala Sardari Lal Kapoor

Ludhiana: Punjab food, civil supplies & consumer affairs minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu on Sunday dedicated the road, connecting Ferozepur Road (from near Grand Walk Mall) and Pakhowal Road (B7 Chowk) in the memory of freedom fighter and former minister Late Lala Sardari Lal Kapoor, at a function held here. Kapoor’s grandson Sunil Kapoor and other family members were also present on the occasion.
While addressing the gathering, Ashu said Kapoor was a great freedom fighter and thrice remained MLA from Ludhiana (north) constituency. He said Kapoor was also a minister of health and local bodies in Sardar Darbara Singh government in Punjab. He said Congress has always stood with the families of our great freedom fighters and leaders.
Grandson Sunil said Kapoor, who passed away on December 12, 1991, was associated with several social, religious and educational institutions such BL Kapoor Memorial Hospital and KVM School.
In another programme, cabinet minister Ashu was honoured by the members of Valmiki Samaj Maha Panchayat during a function held in Ghumar Mandi area. The cabinet minister also interacted with the members of Valmiki community and listened to their grievances. While speaking on the occasion, he said he holds the members of Valmiki community in ‘highest regard’ because of their hardworking nature. He said members from the Valmiki community are backbone of city’s development as thousands of them are employed in municipal corporation Ludhiana. He said that ever since his days as a municipal councillor, he has been actively associated with the members of Valmiki community.
Ashu also said the Congress has stood firmly with the Valmiki community for several decades. Before the meeting, he also paid obeisance at the Valmiki Mandir in Ghumar Mandi area.
Samay Singh Birla, president, Valmiki Samaj Maha Panchayat, thanked Ashu for his efforts for the upliftment and betterment of Valmiki community. He said it the Congress party had always safeguarded the rights of Valmikis.
