KAITHAL: Former Haryana chief minister and leader of opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda said on Sunday that the ruling BJP-JPP coalition has lost its support within months of being elected.
Addressing the Parivartan Rally in Karoda village in the Pundari assembly seat, Hooda said the state government had failed to protect the interests of the farmers. Hooda said the farmers were not only facing financial troubles due to natural factors but were also victims of government policies and scams. Hooda said a combination of natural calamities and government apathy has pushed the farmers into debt.
“Therefore, our demand is that the government should not only give full compensation to the farmers for the crop loss but their loans should also be waived off. Farmers's crop has been hit due to excessive rains and hailstorms. The government, however, did not compensate them despite having crop insurance. This is happening because the rules of the insurance scheme benefit the companies and not the farmers,” Hooda said.
Hooda also slammed the state government for the poor condition of roads after the rains and said internal roads all over the state are filled with potholes and the government has not even bothered to repair them. He said all major roads now have tolls and people of the state have to pay toll for commuting to their own village and city, he added.
Hooda said the BJP-JPP government is a disaster and no section of the state is satisfied with the quality of governance.
“This government is pushing the state backwards instead of taking it forward. During the Congress government, Haryana was number one in per capita income, per capita investment, rewarding sportspersons and providing employment to our youth. Under the BJP rule, the state has become number one in crime, drugs, unemployment, riots and pollution. This government has stopped the welfare schemes initiated during our government which were benefiting farmers, workers and the poor," Hooda said.
He said welfare of the people of Haryana is not even on the agenda of BJP-JJP leaders as they are only focused on enjoying their stint in power. Instead of working, this government is busy in publicity for schemes that exist only on paper.
“It has been more than 4 months since they formed the government, but the ruling coalition has not even released its Common Minimum Program even though a new budget has been presented. There is no mention of any plan for bringing the Common Minimum Program in the budget. In such a situation, even if the program comes, it has no justification as no provision has been made in the budget,” Hooda said.
