THANE: It is said that, a man may work from sun to sun, but a woman’s work is never done. This International Women’s Day, we bring to you a story of such hardworking women, who irrespective of the backgrounds, education, family responsibilities and other commitments have come together to start something new and something different.
From the age of 19 to the age of 60, women of different age groups and different backgrounds have stepped into this venture to make a difference to their lives. A startup food joint venture initiated by three entrepreneurs – Yael Dsouza, Aartee Shetty and Rupa Machhar decided to start something special for women who wanted to make a difference to their lives.
And as the trio understood the challenges of a working woman’s life they decided to keep their rules and regulations simple and absolutely flexible.
These women working for the startup will have the freedom to work at the time as per their convenience. One can work in the early morning hours, late night hours, afternoon or even evenings. There are no shift timings and no restrictions on when to work and what to work, as long as one is willing to work.
The trio are now shifting from their corporate setup to more of a social cause by empowering women from different socio-economic groups and helping them achieve their dreams and secure their future by giving them a chance of employment.
All the women employees who have been selected are super excited that they would get to help their families and themselves by earning a livelihood.
Laxmi Badekar, a grandmother, is all set to start out her career at 60. Many elderly, housewives, college students etc. are breaking the barriers as they are opting to learn, earn and enjoy a career by joining this venture which is providing them these facilities that also at a time that is suitable for them.
“After quitting my marketing job and taking a break for over eight years after my second delivery, it was difficult for me to get a job. Once my children became independent, I wanted to restart my career and I finally got an opportunity here. The best part here is that I did not have to compromise my family time, as I am given a chance to work at a time when I am free, which will be after I am done with my household duties,” said Manisha Garach, a housewife.
Explaining the benefits of this job, the entrepreneurs stated that unlike the rigid company rules, we have not kept any rules or regulations. Employees here can come here as per their convenient timings and finish the work. Also the nature of the work is not bound to any one employee.
All the women working here will get the freedom to everything, for example, anyone can do cooking, managing accounts, delivering the food parcels, manage the reception or even take orders.
“Women always struggle to manage their home and work, due to which at times some don’t take up work. Hence this venture will give them a chance to step out and do something for themselves and most importantly at their convenience,” said Dsouza, one of the organisers.
It is learnt that it was Shetty’s idea to come up with this initiative and employ women. “While usually companies design their system and expect the employees to follow it, we have done otherwise and designed our operations according to the schedules of the women,” said Shetty, who had a vision to do something for women.
Also there are some who are trying to break the barrier that house maids cannot do any other job, Mayuri Mohane (35), sole earner of her family is joining the venture to learn new skills. Mohane says, “I will get an opportunity to learn things like management skills, learning how new machines function. Being a sole earner of a family with two children who are giving their board exams I couldn’t even think of learning something along with earning money. Also, I will be doing this work in the evenings when I am free.”
Some have even become part of the venture to make utmost use of the free time. Isha M. who is a student and is in TYBcom is one such example. She stated that she has ample time on her hand between college and doing her studies, she hence has taken up work at the venture for few hours so that it would help her have a job experience.
