Top 5 Car News Of The Week: Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace, BMW X1, Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Launched And More

We hope you’re staying safe indoors while we get the latest news to you

Last week has been stressful with a worsening global economic situation and the spread of the Coronavirus. In view of the contagious virus, carmakers such as BMW held their events virtually, unveiling the i4 concept electric Gran Coupe on a digital platform. For news such as this and more, read on:

Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace Launched

If you were looking for a more approachable alternative to the Toyota Fortuner, Volkswagen has added more space and an extra row of seats to the Tiguan. Although it has no diesel variant, the SUV gets our favourite 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine under the bonnet.

BMW X1 Launched

It might not look drastically different from the outgoing model, but it didn’t have to. The X1 is a taut-handling well-equipped luxury SUV which offers cleaner engines and up to 400Nm of diesel torque.

Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Launched

The Wrangler is Jeep’s most capable off-roader in India. It got a shot in the arm last week with off-roading tyres and more kit. Plus, you can still remove the roof and doors to take the backcountry in.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class Unveiled

There’s still time before this Merc comes to India, but we finally know what it looks like. Changes aren’t limited to the redesigned front and rear ends. It also gets turbocharged engines which feature a novel electric compressor to minimize turbo lag. The result? You get peak torque for nearly the entire rev range.

Geneva International Motor Show Cancelled

A number of European and foreign carmakers were set to launch or reveal their cars at this year’s show. The stage was under development, too. But the Swiss government took the logical step and banned large gatherings of people to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus. This year, there will be no Geneva Motor Show.
