GREATER NOIDA: Two men were booked on Thursday for allegedly swapping a debit card of a Greater Noida resident inside an ATM kiosk and later making a fraud transaction of Rs 45,000 from his bank account in Surajpur on February 17.
The complainant, Chandan Paswan, a native of Gulistanpur village in Greater Noida informed police that he met the men inside an ATM kiosk in Devla where he had gone to take out Rs 1, 000 from his account.
“They were standing behind me. As soon I finished withdrawing the cash, one of them told me that I will have to insert the card again because the receipt of the transaction did not come out. Saying this, he took my debit card, but I told him that I do not want the receipt. So, he gave it back to me and I left,” he said.
However, on his way back, he apparently received a message from his bank stating that Rs 45,000 was debited from his account.
“I immediately took out my debit card and realised that the accused had exchanged my card with another one of the same bank. He must have seen my PIN number also,”he said.
Paswan immediately filed a complaint against the duo at Surajpur police station. However, an FIR was lodged only on Thursday following a preliminary investigation in the case.
The SHO of Surajpur police station said the duo have been booked under Section 66 of the IT Act.
“We are checking for relevant CCTV footage of the incident to identify the accused,” he said.
