Mohali: Gang of 20 robs Derabassi unit, assaults workers

MOHALI: A gang of 20 men robbed a Derabassi workshop of cash after thrashing its supervisor and staff in a daylight raid on Tuesday.
Supervisor Gurcharan Singh of Bathinda told police: "I was sitting with colleagues at the workshop in Mubarakpur, Derabassi, when this group barged into the workshop and started hitting workers Harsimranjeet Singh, Mukul Garg, and Harish. Then they turned on us with sticks and metal rods. The bag they took away contained Rs 2.50 lakh cash."
Police claim to have identified one of the accused as Sanjeev. Supervisor Gurcharan Singh said the fleeing gang that had claimed to be from the Mohan Pal group had also threatened to kill him if he returned to work. A case under section 452 (trespass after preparation for assault), 323 (punishment for causing hurt voluntarily), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), 379-B (punishment for theft), 148 (armed riot) and 149 (unlawful assembly) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at the Derabassi police station.
Derabassi station house officer (SHO) sub-inspector Satinder Singh said: "The investigation is on. We are scrutinizing CCTV footage for possible clues. Manhunts are on for the miscreants. We hope to arrest them soon."
