Noida: Only commissioner of police can give nod for Gangster Act

Alok Kumar Singh
NOIDA: Under the new commissionerate system, only the commissioner of police can give approval for the Gangster Act and provisions of the Goonda Act can be slapped only after a nod from the additional DCP (law and order).
The decisions were taken during a meeting convened by the commissioner of police, Alok Kumar Singh, on Wednesday. Top police officers, such as DCPs, additional DCPs and ACPs, were asked to prepare a list of top 10 criminals active in each of the 22 police stations in the district.
DCP (Noida) Sankalp Sharma said the list would have to be submitted every month. “Action will have to be taken against these criminals. They have to be arrested and the Gangster or the Goonda Act need to be imposed against them,” he added.
DCP (central Noida) Harish Chander said the list of top 10 criminals needs to be different every month. DCPs and additional DCPs will have the authority to recommend the imposition of the Act, as the case may be.
