Lucknow: Missing metro feeder service continues to hit footfall

LUCKNOW: The last-mile connectivity for Metro commuters, feeder services have still not been provided to them even after a year of Metro operations on the 23km north-south corridor.
Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) had announced it would start feeder services at the launch of the priority section in 2017.
UPMRC had also signed a contract with 50 autorickshaws to ferry passengers from inner colonies to nearby Metro stations. However, drivers withdrew later saying it was not profitable for them.
Thereafter, in August 2019, UPMRC signed a contract with a Bengaluru-based private company to provide app-based e-rickshaw service. However, the district administration banned plying of e-rickshaws on certain roads along the Metro route and shifted them to inner colonies.
In November 2019, the Metro corporation contacted another Bengaluru-based private firm to provide e-scooters as feeder service. That firm backed out at the last moment, saying that e-scooters were not feasible for Lucknow as there is only one corridor functional in the city. Now, UPMRC is in talks with UPSRTC to link Metro stations with city buses.
"We will make bus stops at every station so that city buses can be used as feeder service," said UPMRC managing director Kumar Keshav.
The absence of a feeder service takes a toll on the daily ridership of Metro, especially during summer because people don't want to walk long distances to stations for travelling by Metro.
