PATIALA: Timely rain and sufficient water level has facilitated optimum functioning of Ranjit Sagar and Shahpurkandi dams. Both hydel power projects have surpassed their previous historical record of all time highest power generation. They achieved highest ever generation of 2,013.194 million units (MUs) till 5pm on Thursday. The previous highest annual generation record stood at 2,013.19 million units (MUs) in 2005-06.
Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) chairman-cum-managing director (CMD) Baldev Singh Sran said four units of 150 MW each at Ranjit Sagar Dam and Shahpurkandi have given much needed flexibility and reliability to the power grid. He said this has also helped PSPCL save money by cutting down costly power generation.
In 2019-20, Shanan Power House, Jogindernagar also broke the record of maximum monthly power generation in the last four financial years from 2016-17 to 2019-20. Shanan Power House recorded 79.718 million units (MUs) in May 2019.
Besides achieving record power generation, hydel projects also generated more energy in 2019-20 than the previous years. The CMD said up till Wednesday, power generation of PSPCL’s own hydel projects was 4,692.059 million units (MUs), more than the annual generation during any financial year since 2012-13.
