KOLKATA: Cops on Thursday arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly molesting a 23-year-old woman on a bus at the Ramnagar crossing. The woman, a resident of Rabindranagar near Behala Parnasree, was returning home from work.
"The Garden Reach police nabbed the accused, Sk Raja, and registered a
case of molestation. He had inappropriately touched the woman under the influence of alcohol," said DC (Port) Syed Waquar Raza.
The woman, police said, had objected when he tried to grope her the first time but the accused paid no heed. She then raised an alarm and the other passengers intervened.
This is the sixth time that a molestation attempt has been made inside a bus over the past one year.On three occasions, three persons were held for trying to click photographs of women outside Metro stations.
"We are always ready to listen and react immediately to any distress call," a Lalbazar officer said. Cops said that multiple arrests had been carried out, following calls to 100 ever since model Ushoshi Sengupta had been chased by helmetless bikers. They had then introduced a standard operating procedure for better coordination between the central control room and various police stations.
