Ludhiana: Khanna police books inspector for assault on an advocate

LUDHIANA: Nine days after an advocate was allegedly beaten by the then STF incharge Harbans Singh near Doraha, Sadar Khanna police in the wee hours of Thursday morning booked him and 3 other cops into the matter.
However the police also lodged a cross FIR into the case against advocate Varun Gupta for allegedly assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharging of his duty among other section. The cops against whom case has been registered included the then STF incharge inspector Harbans Singh, constable Navkamaljot Singh, senior constable Gurwinder Singh and home guard Jaswant Singh whereas case was registered against Varun Gupta as well.
Sadar Khanna police booked the cops under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 506 (criminal intimidation), 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC and Section 27 of Arms Act 1959. Police also booked advocate Varun Gupta under sections 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) of IPC.
