KANPUR: Seven years after a
Telangana teen went missing after eloping with her boyfriend, she was tracked down more than 1,300km away in Kanpur after a
relative stumbled upon a photograph shared by her on a social networking site.
Now, a 23-year-old mother of a two-year-old child, she was taken into custody by Telangana police from
Panki Padav area of Kanpur late Tuesday, said Panki station house officer,
Vinod Kumar.
On a hot May afternoon in 2013, the girl, then 16 years old, left her home in a Telangana village, telling her parents she was going out for tuition. She did not return.
Her father filed a complaint against a
youth of a neighbouring village, accusing him of abducting the minor. Telangana police lodged a case against the youth, Chhotu, and began investigation. Cops filed a closure report after failing to trace the girl. Last week, a relative of the woman noticed her Facebook post in which she shared the picture of her two-year-old daughter’s birthday celebration.
The relative immediately intimated her parents who alerted police which approached Kanpur police and took her into custody.
“During questioning in Telangana, the woman said she was happily married,” said a police officer.
