CHANDIGARH: As many as 99 out of 2,200 defaulter street vendors were registered with the authorities after they paid their outstanding dues.
A final chance was given to those who had not registered themselves to pay the fee from February 1 to 29. The new street vendors are from all three categories, essential service providers (ESPs), non-essential service providers (N-ESPs) and mobile vendors. Out of these 99, 73 are NESPs, 15 ESPs and the remaining 11are mobile vendors. The N-ESPs will be provided vending sites in different locations across the city through a draw of lots.
The ESPs will be allowed to sit at the same places where they were working and mobile vendors will be able to move around in different places.
After the last opportunity, 329 vendors came to the MC to take slips to open their accounts for making the payment.
Out of these, 200 vendors went to different e-sampark centres and opened their accounts, but only 99 deposited the amount. Now, we are compiling the details and these will be put before the Town Vending Committee to allot them sites after holding the draw of lots,” said a senior officer of the MC.
The monthly fees of the vendors of all categories vary according to their trade. "The minimum monthly fee is Rs 300 per month and the maximum is Rs 2,000 per month. All vendors are covered under these amounts only and they have to pay the fee regularly," said an official.
The last opportunity was given following numerous requests by municipal councillors during the monthly house meetings in the past. The MC had also received requests in this regard.
