LUCKNOW: Putting the onus of nation building on teachers, chief Minister
Yogi Adityanath said on Wednesday that if anti-national slogans are raised on university campuses then teachers at primary and basic education levels need to introspect and assess what had they taught them that they are now backstabbing their motherland.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of a two-day seminar —Mission Prerna & CSR conclave in Lucknow, CM Yogi asked, “Who is responsible for violence on campuses and for those who are raising anti-national slogans on campus?”
Such incidents reflect badly on education standards and call for making an assessment as to what type of education was imparted to the
students at primary and secondary levels, he said.
“Teachers have a big role in shaping the society and future of country. A good teacher is first a good student who keeps learning throughout life,” said Yogi.
Alluding to complaints of teachers being involved in other work, Yogi said, “If teachers are assigned population census duty, they should not be reluctant, rather they should take it as an opportunity to form a social connect and develop a better understanding of people and society. They can understand from what financial status are their students coming.”
He said one of the biggest challenges was the problem of proxy teachers. “Some were not coming to schools and were sending others to teach on their behalf by paying them from salary. If teachers don’t come to school than how can students be expected. Strict action solved this problem,” said Yogi. He said another challenge in front of his government was to improve infrastructure in schools and was done to big extent through ‘Kayakalp’ scheme.
Under the scheme, infrastructure of 92,000 of 1,58,000 primary schools was upgraded and smart classes, toilets, clean drinking water, been provided. He also inaugurated the upgradation of 350 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas from class VIII to class XII.
Yogi also launched two online learning and monitoring applications, ‘Samarthya’ — for differentially abled students of 6 to 14 age group — and ‘Sharda’ for increasing student enrolment.
