AHMEDABAD: A 21-year-old
woman was held by
cybercrime cell of the city police for displaying another woman’s picture on her instragram profile. The woman also changed the name of the
Instagram ID. Police sources said she did this as the complainant woman, 25, looked pretty, and the accused wanted to increase her followers by using the other woman’s image as her own.
Inspector
S D Sadat of cybercrime police station said the complainant woman works as a nurse in a private hospital and she had approached them last December. She had stated that some unknown person was using her name and picture in a fake Instagram profile. She also stated that her reputation was at risk as that unknown person could upload something objectionable on the fake ID.
“We lodged a case under Section 66 C of the IT act against the accused and wrote to service providers to give us the IP address of the device from which the fake Instagram ID was created,” Sadat.
Cybercrime police sources said that after getting the IP log of the device they approached the accused. “At first, the woman denied having made the fake ID, but broke down when faced with proof,” Sadat said.
“The accused, who has studied only up to Class X, said she found the complainant so beautiful that she took a screenshot of her profile photo and created afake Instagram ID with it to increase her followers,” an investigator said.
