Subramaniam awarded Swathi Sangeetha Puraskaram

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Veteran violinist L Subramaniam has been chosen for the Swathi Sangeetha Puraskaram, the music award of the highest order instituted by the state government.
A jury comprising of Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy chairperson KPAC Lalitha, cultural department secretary Rani George and musicians Mukhathala Sivaji and Sreevalsan J Menon selected the awardee. The award comprises a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh, a statute and a citation.
A renowned Carnatic musician with a long and illustrious track record, Subramaniam is also known for his in-depth knowledge of western music. He is regarded as one among the leading musicians who popularised different classical music streams through fusion music.
He has written several books on music and composed many film songs.
