BATHINDA: Union food processing industries minister
Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Thursday assured a
delegation of rice millers from
Goniana town of
Bathinda that their demand for providing space in the FCI godowns and movement of food grains would be sympathetically considered by the food and public distribution ministry.
A delegation of rice millers from Goniana had called upon Harsimrat Badal at Delhi and informed her that they were facing problems in delivering the balance custom milled rice for the year 2019-20 at the FCI godowns due to lack of space. They said 1300 metric tonnes of rice was due from them which they were unable to deliver due to lack of
storage capacity.
The delegation members also urged the union minister to intervene and ask FCI to arrange special rice rakes from Goniana to free up space in the FCI godown. They said 60 stacks were available for storage of wheat in Markfed’s covered godown in Goniana which could be used to store wheat and free up the
FCI godown to store custom milled rice.
She took up the issue with food and public distribution minister Ram Vilas Paswan following which the delegation also met the managing director of FCI. Delegation members
Rohit Kumar,
Ravi Kumar and
Nathu Ram said they hope the matter would be resolved after the intervention of the minister.
