Women's T20 World Cup LIVE updates: Healy out after steady start for hosts

WICKET

I better stop typing. I've got Beth Mooney out now.

The in-form opener has been bowled by Nadine de Klerk, who is rewarded for attacking the stumps. Mooney came down the track but was cramped for room by the seamer. Mooney goes for 28, Australia are 2/68 in the ninth over. Jess Jonassen is the new batter. Australia are keeping Rachael Haynes for the latter overs.

Lanning is in

Watch out South Africa! Meg Lanning has her eye in. She is looking very good. You don't drop short to Lanning, as Nadine de Klerk did. She's been pulled away for four.

Weather watch

This has been a very good start by Australia, who are 1/54 after seven overs. But now for some bad news: there is a band of rain heading towards Sydney from the north-west. It's probably an hour away.

We could be in a situation where Australia face their full 20 overs and put up a very competitive total but the rain will come before there is enough time to bowl the required 10 overs to South Africa for there to be a game.

If that happens, Australia are out of the tournament.

Mooney a gem

You have to love the way Beth Mooney goes about it. She is very easy on the eye to watch. Sure footwork, lovely hands, excellent placement. She is an extremely skilful batter.

Former Australia great Lisa Sthalekar pumped her up during the week, describing her as the "quiet star" of the Australian side.

WICKET

That's a serious jinx there. Alyssa Healy is out for 18, caught by Dane van Niekerk at mid-wicket of the bowling of seamer Ayabonga Khaka.

She was dropped the last ball of the previous over by wicketkeeper Trisha Chetty on 18 but could not add to that total.

Australia 1-34 in the fifth over.

Cop that

Alyssa Healy has thrown the kitchen sink at that one and connected. Her vicious straight drive to spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba nearly took off the bowler's leg. Mlaba did very well to get out of the way. Healy looks to be in ominous touch.

Steady start for Australia

Australia haven't produced the fireworks so far but they haven't lost a wicket either. It's 0-18 after three overs.

Importantly for Australia, danger woman Alyssa Healy is still at the crease. She has the ability to take the game by the scruff of the neck.

The pitch

Despite the humidity and the heavy rain today, the SCG pitch looks pretty good for batting so far. Mind you we're only two overs in but it's not rearing off a good length or swinging around corners.

Australia 0-9 after two overs.

Huge shout

That's a big appeal for lbw but it's turned down by umpire Nitin Menon.

The South African decide not to challenge the decision. It's an astute decision by skipper Dane van Niekerk as ball tracker has it missing leg stump. Good call as well by Menon.

We're away

We have play. It's seamer Shabnim Ismail to take the new ball to Alyssa Healy.
