2 killed as bike collides with water tanker

Tirupur: Two youth were killed when the motorcycle they were riding rammed into a water tanker near Dharapuram here on Tuesday.
A police officer identified the deceased as Selvamurugan, 25, and Ajay, 19, both natives of Andipatti in Theni district. “They were staying at Dharapuram and working in a pipe making unit there.”
According to the officer, the incident took place when the two were heading to the workplace at Eragampatti. “When they near Rettaivalasu Pirivu, the motorcycle collided with a water tanker that was coming in from the opposite side. In the impact, Selvamurugan and Ajay were thrown off the vehicle,” the officer said.
While people in the locality rushed to their rescue, the two succumbed to their injuries on the spot. When alerted, police sent the bodies to Dharapuram government hospital for postmortem.
Police have booked the driver of the water tanker, Velusamy of Alampalayam, in connection with the case.
