In a poll-defying performance, former Vice President Joe Biden won the Massachusetts primary on the Democrat side, while the state’s own Sen. Elizabeth Warren came in third. Sen. Bernie Sanders, who was favored to win the state in most major polls leading up to the contest, came in second.
As of midnight, Biden had 33% of the vote, Sanders 27% and Warren 20% of the vote.
Across the state, Biden won every county except Suffolk, Franklin and Hampshire counties, which went to Sanders.
Further down in the race, former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg grabbed 11.7% of the vote — not enough to win any delegates. Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar, who dropped out of the race before the Super Tuesday contest but after early voting started in Massachusetts, took 2.6% and 1.2% of the vote respectively.
It was a tough night for Massachusetts natives on the Republican side as well, as former Gov. Bill Weld failed to scrape up even 10 percent of the vote in his contest against President Donald Trump. Trump took 88% of the vote, winning every county by a large margin.
