Ludhiana: Two days on, missing accident victim found dead; accused car occupant on run

LUDHIANA: Missing since Monday an accident victim was found dead inside the park near BCM school, Sector 32 on Wednesday afternoon. The man was hit by a Maruti Suzuki WagonR car on Chandigarh Road on March 2 at around 7 PM and after that the car occupant took him along on pretext of getting his treatment done. Since then the victim was missing.
On Wednesday afternoon, some passerby saw the body and called police. The deceased has been identified as Deep Chand, 42 of Sanjay Gandhi Colony who was a contractual safai karamchari with Municipal Corporation.
In his statement to police, Monu, 23 son of deceased said that he along with his father was standing on road side at Chandigarh Road when the speeding car hit his father. Onlookers raised alarm and stopped the car. Meanwhile he rushed to nearby EWS Colony to get help, when returned the onlookers told him that the car occupant has taken his father along.
Thereafter Monu along with his relatives kept visiting different hospitals to find his father but to no avail. He also approached police but could not find Deep Chand’s whereabouts.
Investigating officer from police station Division number 7, ASI Gurmeet Singh said that, the police on Wednesday got information that a body was found in a park of Sector 32 and identified to be Deep Chand. It is suspected that the car occupant picked injured Deep Chand from accident spot however later dropped him in the park. Chand had a head injury which caused his death.
ASI added that, the onlooker had noted down the car number PB10BX6667 which has been recovered by police. The accused is yet to be arrested. Meanwhile a case under section of 279 (Rash driving) and 304-A (Causing death by negligence) of IPC has been registered.
