PATNA: Health minister Mangal Pandey said on Tuesday that
Bihar has topped in the use of single shot
injectable contraceptive, called Antara, which prevents pregnancy for three months.
Citing the latest report of the Centre while replying to the question of BJP MLC Krishna Kumar Singh during the question hour in legislative council, Pandey said the highest number of women opting for Antara were from Bihar, followed by Rajasthan.
Pandey said the state’s fertility rate was 4.3 in 2005, which has now come down to 3.2 as per Sample Registration System 2017. “The state government is making efforts to reduce fertility rate continuously by implementing ‘Mission
Parivar Vikas’ in 37 districts, excluding Patna, where the fertility rate was 3 or above,” he said.
“The health department organized ‘population stabilization pakhwada’ on July 11 on the World Population Day and ‘vasectomy pakhwada’ on World Vasectomy Day for two months,” he added.
The minister, in response to question of RJD leader Ram Chandra Purbey about the
Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) index of Niti Aayog, said Bihar ranked 28 with 50 points. “The state score has improved on several parameters as per the report, which is based on 17 different parameters,” he said.
Pandey said Viral Research and Diagnostic Lab has been established at
Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for the test of acute encephalitis syndrome (AES). “Besides, the paediatric department of
PMCH treats the patients suffering from AES,” he said.
“Advance Molecular Microbiology and Molecular Genomics Lab is being established at Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna. Besides the research on virus-borne diseases, the experts will also diagnose the causes of AES and related ailments. The lab will be operational by May this year,” he said.
The minister said a state disease control centre (SDCC) is being established at Rajendra Memorial Research Institute of Medical Science, Patna, by utilizing funds to the tune of Rs2 crore.
