WhatsApp group created to prevent cybercrime cases

MUMBAI: To prevent the rise of online fraud, Paytm officials have formed an Urgent Paytm Fraud group on WhatsApp. State Home Minister Anil Deshmukh informed the legislative assembly that the nodal officer of Paytm has formed the group where police officers from Maharashtra and other states are members. 

Through this group, police officers will keep a vigil on online fraud and also alert each other.

Replying to questions raised by BJP MLA Ashish Shelar and Parag Alvani in the Assembly regarding cybercrimes, Deshmukh said that there are 16,515 cybercrime cases registered from 2015 to 2019. “Out of these, 4,532 cases have been solved and 6,020 accused have been arrested,” Deshmukh said. 

“In many cases, banks could not file cases due to non-compliance of documents and non-operational accounts,” he added. 

“The police department is working hard to investigate the cases. The Home Department has imparted training to 3,253 police officers. All police cyber labs have been equipped with modern hardware and software equipment,” he added.
