PUNE: A youth (20) hanged himself on Sunday afternoon near his residence in Ambegaon Taluka, around 50kms from here, after his parents scolded him for being always engrossed in his cellphone.
The Manchar police have registered a case of accidental death in this regard. The deceased, Hritik Suresh Mankar of Kashimbeg village in Ambegaon Taluka, was pursuing bachelors in commerce from a college in Manchar.
Police said Mankar’s father worked in Mumbai and had visited his the house during the weekends. “On Sunday, Mankar’s parents scolded him for spending too much on his cellphone,” an officer from the Manchar police said. The officer said they suspect that the scolding might have upset Mankar, who soon left the house and went to a shed adjacent to it. “The parents said the youth did not return for nearly two hours, following which they called him on his cellphone. When they did not receive a response, they went out to look for him,” the officer said.
The officer said the family members soon located the shed. “They found their son hanging from a rope tied to the iron bar of the roof of the shed,” the officer said.
“The family rushed Manchar to a nearby hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival,” the officer added.
