Nature and wildlife in myriad hues

Thiruvananthapuram: There was no better day than the World Wildlife Day to kick-start the exhibition of photographs by John T L. The photographs that capture nature and wildlife in myriad hues, displayed at Museum Auditorium, will take the spectators to the mesmerizing dense forests.
The three-day exhibition is part of John’s mission to promote the message of protection and preservation of nature and wildlife. “I earnestly feel that it is the duty of mankind to protect and preserve the beauty of our Mother Nature. We may have to pay a heavy price for any damage caused to her, because once it is lost, it is lost forever,” said John.
His trips to forests and ecological hotspots proved that human interventions such as contamination of oceans, plastic waste, agriculture expansions and unplanned eco-tourism schemes have done more harm to the nature that anyone could estimate.
Photos, including that of a tiger cooling off in a lake, a white tiger eyeing a distant prey and playful moments of flocks of migratory birds, have been captured by John over five decades.
John is a trained artist and painter. During his student days itself, he became passionate about photography and enrolled as the disciple of renowned nature photographer T S Lal. The lessons he picked from Lal proved to be worthy when he joined the University of Kerala as an artist and photographer. During his 32-year-long career, he had worked in Botany, Marine Sciences, Zoology and Aquatic Biology departments.
After his retirement in 1997, John took up wildlife photography as a full-time p hobby and continued his travels and adventures. He is also a recipient of Lalithakala Academy Award in 2011.
The exhibition at Museum Auditorium will conclude on Thursday. The gallery will be open for public from 10am to 6pm.
