Vadodara: The office of Vadodara district education officer (DEO) was caught in a controversy on Tuesday as couple of parents alleged that it was making them run from pillar to post for granting permission of writers to assist their kids in the board examinations beginning from Thursday.
The parents who approached the DEO officials with the support of Vadodara Parents’ Association claimed that since the last four days, they have been seeking permission from the office.
Five students, who had suffered injuries recently, were waiting for permission from the office. On Tuesday, only three students were granted permission.
“My daughter’s son had got his hand fractured after meeting an accident at Tarsali. When we approached the school, we were told that he will require permission from the DEO for seeking assistance from a writer,” said Bhailal Makwana, a retired employee of Indian Railways.
“We had also submitted a certificate from the doctor but we are being asked to change it as the doctor has not clearly mentioned that the student requires such an assistance,” he said.
Officials of DEO said they have been personally assisting such students and their parents.
“As per rules, we require a clear opinion from the civil surgeon of government hospital as certificate of private practitioner is not allowed. We have personally spoken to doctors and are assisting the parents,” said an official.
