CHANDIGARH: The 26-year-old suspected coronavirus patient from Sector 50, who was home-quarantined on Monday, was admitted to the communicable disease and isolation ward of PGI on Tuesday. Officials said the person had travelled to Bali and Singapore with his wife from February 18 to 25.
"When he developed allergy due to the rain last weekend, he reported to PGI's emergency. Not finding any symptoms of flu, he was asked for home quarantine. But the next day, he was traced by PGI and asked to come for admission," said an official in the UT health department. He said, "All his other four contacts have been home quarantined. He is stable. His sample was sent to AIIMS, Delhi. The report will come on Wednesday," said the official.
Sources said the authorities sprang into action after positive cases of the virus were reported in Delhi and Telangana. "In fact, the traveller, who is a Delhi resident, got in touch with many contacts who are also having high viral load. So, we called back the patient and admitted him to PGI," said a doctor.
Later in the day, another suspected coronavirus patient was admitted to PGI. The 29-year-old man from Sector 20 had a travel history to Indonesia and had a cough.
Last month, a resident of Sector 37 working in a Singapore-based company had come to Chandigarh. He was admitted to PGI and discharged after his report tested negative for coronavirus. A suspected case of the virus was admitted to PGI in January. He too was found to be negative for the virus. Two children with a travel history to Singapore were also admitted after they were suspected for the virus in PGI. They were later discharged.
