Denied leave, lineman bludgeons Tangedco junior engineer to death

Coimbatore: A lineman with the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) murdered his colleague and junior engineer by bludgeoning him with a wooden log near Komaramangalam in the district on Tuesday over a quarrel related to their work.
The deceased was identified as V Maniprabhu, 35, from RG Nagar at SV Puram near Udumalpet. He was working as a junior engineer at the office of the Tangedco at Kilavankattupudur near Komaramangalam.
Police said Maniprabhu was on duty on Monday night. On Tuesday around 6am, he completed his duty and was getting ready to go home. While he was about to leave the office on a motorcycle, the lineman, S Kannan, of Kolumam near Komaramangalam, attacked Maniprabhu with a wooden log on his head. Kannan fled from the crime scene.
Neighbours rushed Maniprabhu, who suffered severe head injuries, to a private hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. The body was sent to the Udumalpet government hospital for postmortem. The preliminary inquiry revealed that Kannan had an argument with Maniprabhu after the latter denied him leave. Kannan went into depression and attacked Maniprabhu.
The Komaramangalam police registered a case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. A special team has been formed to nab the accused.
