SCERT’s silver jubilee fete today

Thiruvananthapuram: General education minister C Raveendranath will inaugurate the silver jubilee celebrations of the State Council for Educational Research and Training (SCERT) here on Wednesday.
“The celebrations will showcase the contributions of the council to the school-education sector over the past several years. The council is committed to enhance the quality of general education from pre-school to higher secondary. The ongoing public education rejuvenation mission has brought about sweeping and promising changes in the sector. The renewed interest that public now shows towards government schools would give further impetus to the activities of SCERT,” council director J Prasad told reporters on Monday.
The council, Prasad said, has started taking steps to address widespread complaints against the continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE) taking place in public schools.
“We have started taking solid measures to ensure that students really undergo continuous and comprehensive evaluation. Ernest efforts by teachers are pivotal. The effective rollout of CEE has started in lower classes. Assessment in higher classes would infallibly improve over the course of time,” he said.
According to Prasad, SCERT will start a teacher-transformation course that would improve the skillsets and knowledge base of teachers who mould the lives of lakhs of students. The course will be of six months’ duration.
Cooperation and tourism minister Kadakampally Surendran will launch the course during the silver jubilee celebrations. An exhibition of academic materials developed by SCERT over the last 25 years is being organised at the SCERT headquarters here.
