EVENT HIGHLIGHTS

Benchmark indices were trading half a per cent lower in a volatile session on Wednesday, dragged down by selling in banks and metal counters.
The S&P BSE Sensex was down 200 points, or 0.5 per cent, at 38,42 levels. Tata Steel and IndusInd Bank (both down 3%) were the top laggards in the Sensex pack. On the other hand, Sun Pharma was up 3 per cent.
The broader Nifty50 index hovered near 11,250 levels, down 47, or 0.4 per cent. The Nifty sectoral indices were trading largely in the red. Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Private Bank, Nifty Bank indexes (all down 1.4 per cent each) bled the most.
In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap index slumped 129 points, or 0.87 per cent, and the S&P BSE SmallCap index was down 83 points, or 0.6 per cent.
