Girl administered oath against love elopes, gets married

Amravati: A 19-year-old college girl, who was reportedly administered an oath not to indulge in love marriage at a college NSS camp a fortnight ago, eloped and got married to a boy at a temple on February 29.
Her father lodged a complaint of deception against the boy with Chandur Railway police, who have registered a case of the girl going missing.
Sources said the girl was a resident of Yadav Nagar in Chandur Railway town and studying in BA-II at Mahila Kala Va Vanijya Mahavidyalaya.
The college had been at the centre of controversy on February 23, when two lecturers administered an oath to all the girls at a special National Social Service (NSS) camp at village Tembhurni. The oath was to the effect that the girls would not indulge in love affairs or love marriage. The eloped girl too had taken the oath, it is learnt.
The oath had evoked sharp reactions from all corners of the state. After a probe, the college management had suspended the principal who had proposed the oath, and the two lecturers who implemented the idea at the camp. It is learnt that the students had recently launched an agitation to demand withdrawal of suspension of the teachers.
Even before the ink on the matter dried, this girl eloped with her boyfriend from village Baral, taluka Babhulgaon, and married him at a temple on February 29. The news created sensation in Chandur town.
The complaint lodged with police by the girl’s father said she left home in the morning telling parents that she was going to college. In the evening, she called up her father and told him that she had got married to her boyfriend. She also claimed that her boyfriend owns a two-storeyed house at his native place and two flats at Pune. She asked her father not to worry about her.
When the father made enquiries, he reportedly found that the boy’s claims were not borne out. So, he lodged a complaint with police that the girl had been deceived by the boy. The cops are searching for the girl.
