2kg of gold seized at Chennai airport

CHENNAI: Customs officials seized 2kg of gold from four passengers, including three Sri Lankan nationals, who flew into Chennai airport on Tuesday. A woman passenger, who hails from Chennai, has also been arrested.
According to a press release, Jenitha, 40, of Chennai, who arrived from Dubai, was intercepted. Four plastic pouches containing gold paste were recovered from her. On extraction, 525gm of gold valued at 34.97 lakh was recovered. She was arrested.
In three other cases, officials intercepted Mohamed Akeel, 23, Mohamed Arshad, 28, and Mohamed Afzal, 26, all from Sri Lanka. Nine bundles (three from each) containing gold paste were recovered. On extraction, 1.292 kg of gold valued at 56.21 lakhs were recovered and seized.
In total, 2.095 kg gold valued at 91.18 lakhs was seized.
