NRMU protests lack of medicines at rly hospital

Nagpur: The Central Railway divisional hospital at Nagpur, whose mission statement is to achieve total patient satisfaction and quality health care, came in for sharp criticism from employees for not having stock of life saving drugs and essential medicines.
On Tuesday, members of National Railway Mazdoor Union (NRMU) gheraoed chief medical superintendent (CMS) Dr Sandhya Hedau and protested the apathetic attitude of the railway administration towards 17,000 employees and their family members, who avail services of the hospital.
NRMU divisional secretary SK Jha said, “For the last one year the hospital has not had at least 18 drugs and injections, which went out of stock.”
“The list will be too big if the condition of other hospitals at Ajni, Wardha, Ballarshah, Amla and Junnardeo is considered. The hospital has not completed its annual medical indent (AMI) and pending tenders for 2019-20 have not been finalized,” said Jha.
Jha said there are 343 drugs which are under the purview of CMS, but these medicines are unavailable for the last one month. NRMU has been raising poor plight of the hospital but things have failed to improve.
“The recognized railway union has threatened to launch an agitation if the hospital administration is not improved,” warned NRMU leader Habib Khan.
