PATNA: CM
Nitish Kumar on Tuesday asked officials of five departments to sit together and prepare a comprehensive policy to promote manufacturing and use of electric vehicles in the state.
“Senior officials of industries, energy, urban development and housing, transport and finance departments should hold a joint meeting in near future and discuss all practical aspects before finalizing a policy for promoting such vehicles,” Nitish said while reviewing an industries department’s presentation on the state government’s draft policy on ‘Electric Vehicle Manufacturing.’
At the directive of NITI Aayog, the Centre has asked all states to make its own policy for promotion of electric vehicle manufacturing. State’s investment commissioner R S Shrivastava said there was need of making certain amendments to the Bihar Industrial Investment Promotion Policy- 2016 to promote electric vehicle manufacturing in the state.
“Bring such a policy that generate employment, benefits maximum people and protect environment of urban areas. If a company wants to manufacture e-rickshaws in Bihar, you must give them certain benefits. Electric vehicle buyers too should be given certain incentives,” Nitish told the officials.
He also asked them to include electric vehicles under the Mukhya Mantri Gram Parivahan Yojna. “Take necessary steps to promote electric vehicles in small towns having civic bodies like nagar parishad and nagar panchayat,” the CM said.
He also asked the officials to make necessary plans to set up adequate number of charging stations for electric vehicles in different towns.
