Hyderabad: Burglars cut open ATM, steal Rs 6.7 lakh

HYDERABAD: Burglars prised open an ATM at Hayathnagar and stole Rs 6.7 lakh cash in the early hours of Wednesday.
Ch Naveen Kumar, a representative of AGS Transact Technologies Ltd in Begumpet, lodged a complaint with Hayathnagar Police stating that unknown people had opened an Axis Bank ATM at Dairy Farm in Hayathnagar and stole Rs 6.7 lakh cash.
“AGS Transact Technologies maintains the ATM centres and staff of another company, Secure Value, load cash in the ATM centres. At 4.57pm on Tuesday, staff of Secure Value brought cash from Begumpet branch of Axis Bank and loaded 5.5 lakh cash in the Axis Bank ATM. After the cash loading, the available cash at the ATM centre was 7.86 lakh,” Hayathnagar inspector K Satish said.
At 9.30am on Wednesday, D Naveen, maintenance executive of AGS Transact Technologies called the complainant and informed him that the ATM was cut open by unknown offenders. After visiting the scene of offence, the complainant informed his boss, Mahesh, about the incident. “The last transaction from the ATM was at 1.59am on Wednesday for 200 and the balance amount was 6.37 lakh. The offenders stole the balance amount,” the inspector said.
During the preliminary probe, police found that the offenders pulled the ATM centre shutter down and opened the ATM using a gas cutter. After stealing the cash, they fled with the tools. The CCTV camera at the ATM was not working and there was no security guard, the inspector said. Based on the complaint, police registered a burglary case under Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC. A manhunt was launched to nab the offenders based on the leads obtained through CCTV camera footages near the ATM centre.
